Centre Animal Hospital in State College, PA is a full service companion animal hospital. It is our commitment to provide quality veterinary care throughout the life of your pet. Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical, surgical and dental care as necessary during his or her lifetime. Our facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area and indoor kennels for hospitalized patients.

We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and are dedicated to becoming your partner in your pet's health care. We treat every client as though they were family and every pet as if they were our own. Our goal is to practice the highest quality medicine and surgery with compassion and an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner.

Mark F. Michelotti, VMD

Originally from the Camp Hill area of Pennsylvania, Dr. Michelotti received his BS in Animal Science from Penn State University in 1979. He received his VMD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and was first in his class. After graduating, he moved back to State College because of his love for the area. From 1983-88 he practiced as an associate veterinarian at Animal Medical Hospital in State College. In February of 1988, he opened Centre Animal Hospital as a solo practice.

Dr. Michelotti's veterinary interests include orthopedics, ear, nose, and throat surgery, and canine reproductive services.

In his free time, Dr. Michelotti enjoys playing squash, fly fishing, fly-tying, bow hunting, and bird hunting with his dog, Kira.
Debra J. Smart, DVM

Dr. Smart is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Princeton University, and then earned her DVM at Colorado State University. She practiced in Colorado for 4 years and in Minnesota for 5 years before moving to State College with her husband, who joined the meteorology department at Penn State.

Dr. Smart lives with her husband, Ken Davis, and their three children: Maggie, Nathan, and Mary, in Warriors Mark. The family has a Portuguese Water Dog, three cats, two Morgan horses, and one pony. Dr. Smart's special interests are in feline medicine and dentistry. She treats pocket pets (guinea pigs, gerbils and hamsters) and rabbits here at Centre Animal Hospital. Dr. Smart enjoys horseback riding, both dressage and trail riding, and traveling and camping with her family.
Jennifer Nunnery, DVM

Dr. Nunnery is originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She earned a BA in Biology from Hollins College in Roanoke, Virginia, and in 2002 received her DVM from the University Of Tennessee College Of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Nunnery's experience includes working as a small animal veterinarian in Tennessee and in public health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA.

In August of 2006, following her husband's career move to Penn State University to teach philosophy, she joined the Centre Animal Hospital team. She and her husband, Mark, live in State College with their daughter, Allison and their two cats, Nenagh, Nicholas, and two dogs, Tennessee and Virginia. In her leisure time she enjoys hiking, knitting, and reading.
Walter O. Cottrell, MS, DVM

Dr. Cottrell is originally from Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan for a year and a half before going into the Marine Corps for 5 years. He then earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Michigan State. Dr. Cottrell was a wildlife biologist in Maryland, Minnesota, and Vermont for 6 years after which he went to veterinary school at Cornell University. He began practicing in Vermont and worked there for 19 years. In 2004, he moved to Pennsylvania and began working at Centre Animal Hospital full time. Dr. Cottrell now works as the wildlife veterinarian for the Pennsylvania Game Commission and practices part time here at Centre Animal Hospital.

Dr. Cottrell lives with his wife, Carol, in Port Matilda. They have one son and two grandsons. They share their home with two English Setters. Dr. Cottrell specializes in acupuncture and Chinese medicines. In his spare time he enjoys hunting with his dogs, Celtic music, and pomology. Dr. Cottrell also writes a column on canine health for the national magazine, Upland Almanac.
Diane Porter, DVM

Dr. Porter was born and raised in State College where she attended Penn State University. She went on to attend North Carolina State University and earned a BS in Animal Science and her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Dr. Porter joined Centre Animal Hospital in April of 2008 after moving back to the area. Her interests include exotic animals and aquatic medicine. She sees pocket pets (guinea pigs, gerbils and hamsters) and rabbits here at the hospital. Her experience includes working as a technician/office manager of a veterinary clinic in North Carolina.

Dr. Porter lives with her husband, David, and three daughters, Breanne, Ella Jean and Kelsey in Pine Grove Mills. She also shares her home with two cats, Kali and El N, and a German short-haired pointer, Drake. She enjoys spending time in the outdoors and likes to hike, kayak, and garden.
Renee Calvert, DVM

Dr. Calvert knew from the beginning exactly what she was meant to do in life – she was in third grade when she decided to become a veterinarian, and she hasn't slowed down since. She grew up near Allentown, PA where she got her start raising Seeing Eye puppies, graduated from Penn State, and went on to vet school at Purdue (where she was the top medicine and surgery student in her class). She worked at hospitals in Fairmont, WVA and Somerset, PA before moving back to State College in 2000 to found her own practice – Mountain MobileVet. After 8 great years on the roads of Centre County, she was ready for a change, and is happy to join the staff of Centre Animal Hospital.

Dr. Calvert lives near State College with her husband Jeff, son Lucas, dog Nellie, and her sphynx cat Angelica. She's a runner and an avid fan of Penn State sports.
Emily Anderson, DVM

Centre Animal Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of Emily Anderson, DVM to our staff of veterinarians. Dr. Anderson joins us from the Erie, PA area. She received her undergraduate degree from PSU in 2003 and her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Dr Anderson has a love of pocket pets, rabbits in particular.

In her free time, Dr. Anderson enjoys spending time with family, traveling, listening to U2, and reading nonfiction. She lives with her husband, their young son, 3 cats, a black Labrador retriever and a rabbit. She will be working part-time starting in August.
